How we started MAK & TEA

The airport delay that started it all in 2019

For those of you who don’t know MAK & TEA (our collaboration) was born in the Ft. Lauderdale airport after our flight home to California was delayed more than 8 hours. We parked ourselves firmly at the most comfortable airport restaurant we could find, and Mackenzie continued her (failing) barrage to convince Tony to consider creating something together.

Tony was (and is) already a celebrated and published author-illustrator (check out The Greatest Adventure with Scholastic!) with a Pixar pedigree. And Mackenzie was (and is…) a creative dabbler who thinks creating children’s books seems like loads of fun.

Whether it was the 8 hours of boredom, the 14+ months of begging, or the 24 oz. of beer that broke the camel’s back, that day in the airport, we created 4 different story concepts that in less than 6 months we would be pitching in LA for our now beloved agent Kevin Lewis (we love you, Kevin!).

All this to say, we are delighted to keep you updated on both our collaborative MAK & TEA projects, but also on our solo endeavors
